Ronda McLaughlin

1st Grade

Welcome to 1st grade! My name is Ronda McLaughlin and I teach first graders at Harlan Elementary. I thoroughly enjoy teaching first graders because of their enthusiasm and energy for learning. It is a thrill for me to see where they begin as readers, writers, and mathematicians in the fall and where they end in the spring. I graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a degree in elementary education. I began my teaching career in Mediapolis teaching first and second grade. I then spent time substituting in the Clarke Community School district in Osceola, Iowa while my children were growing up. In 1991 I joined the Mt.Pleasant Community School district team and taught at Saunders, Salem, and Harlan Elementary Schools. I have had the pleasure of teaching first, second and third graders in the Mt. Pleasant district. I consider myself to be a life-long learner and continue to learn new strategies and teaching techniques.

Besides my first grade family, I have three grown children and three grandchildren. I enjoy spending time with my family and attending my grandchildren’s extra-curricular activities. I also enjoy reading books, going to dinner and a movie and shopping.

If you have any questions at any time please feel welcome to contact me. You can reach me at Harlan Elementary ( 385-7762) or by e-mailing me at ronda.mclaughlin@mtpcsd.org.  I look forward to working with your family and getting to know you better! First grade is a wonderful year for student learning. You will be amazed at what a little reader, writer, and mathematician your child has become by the end of the school year!
