Dina Saunders

Middle School
ELL Teacher

I am fortunate to have had a variety of life experiences that have equipped me for the life I lead today.  When I was 15, I moved from Southern California to Iowa. I graduated from Harmony High School, then from Cornell College with a Bachelor of Arts degree. After marrying and moving to Wisconsin, I attended the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay to complete teacher certification in Spanish and English as a Second Language (ESL). My life in Wisconsin included teaching Spanish, selling smoked fish, running a gas station, working at a resort, commercial fishing and an occasional Packers game.

Since 2006, I have had the pleasure of working with English Language Learners (ELLs) in Mt. Pleasant. I earned my Master of Arts in Education from Viterbo University in 2009. In the summer of 2015, I completed my Education Specialist degree and initial licensure for administrators through Drake University.  I am pleased to be at the middle school where I am implementing strategies to improve student performance. Each day I strive to make my students' educational experience enjoyable and meaningful.

All of my life experiences have taught me that despite different languages and customs, we all share the basic needs of wanting to be safe, accepted and appreciated. Each student has a gift to develop-- our task as teachers is to get to know our students and find those gifts.
